Helen Frankenthaler's "What Red Lines Can Do" (Harrison 25), 1970, is a limited edition, signed and numbered screenprint on Arches handmade paper. A quintessential example of Abstract Expressionism translated to printmaking, this work features dynamic red lines that create striking visual tension against the composition's negative space. Frankenthaler worked with Maurel Studios in New York to translate her pioneering "soak-stain" painting technique into the printmaking medium. Part of a portfolio of five screenprints, the print was published by Multiples, Inc. and produced in a limited edition of 75 + 24 AP.

    About Helen Frankenthaler

Helen Frankenthaler (1928–2011) was a pivotal figure in 20th-century American art, best known for her role in the development of Abstract Expressionism and the Color Field movement. Her groundbreaking soak-stain technique, in which she poured thinned paint directly onto unprimed canvas, allowed colors to flow and merge in a way that created expansive, luminous fields of color.
