Jeff Koons' "Girl with Lobster" isn't a single work, but a series of sculptures and prints featuring a young woman holding a bright red lobster. The woman, based on a sailor pin-up, has a photorealistic, almost cartoonish quality. The lobster, made of shiny stainless steel, contrasts with her matte skin.
This playful juxtaposition is typical of Koons' work. He often blurs the lines between high art and pop culture, questioning ideas of taste and consumerism. The lobster, a luxury good, becomes a playful accessory, while the woman's idealized image reflects the mass-produced perfection we see in advertising.
