What is an Archival Pigment Print?

← Back to Art Glossary

Definition: An archival pigment print is a fine art print created using pigment-based inks on acid-free, museum-grade paper. These prints are produced with high-end inkjet printers and are designed for long-term stability, resisting fading, yellowing, or deterioration over time.

The term "archival" refers to the print’s longevity — under proper storage and framing conditions, these works can last over 100 years. Common in both contemporary photography and limited-edition printmaking, archival pigment prints are favored for their rich color depth, tonal range, and texture reproduction.
