Fine Art Prints

← Back to Art Glossary

Definition: Fine art prints are original works of art produced through printmaking techniques such as etching, lithography, woodcut, aquatint, screen printing, or digital pigment printing. These are not reproductions of existing paintings, but standalone artworks, often created in limited editions and signed by the artist.

Each print in the edition is considered an original multiple. Fine art prints have long been collected by museums and private collectors as a more accessible and intimate way to engage with an artist’s work.

Notable 20th-century printmakers include Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Andy Warhol, and Louise Bourgeois. Contemporary artists like Julie Mehretu, Jonas Wood, and KAWS continue to push the boundaries of fine art printmaking today.
