Reproduction Rights

← Back to Art Glossary

Definition: Reproduction rights are the legal permissions that determine who can replicate, publish, or distribute an artwork in print or digital form. These rights typically remain with the artist or their estate, unless transferred by contract.

Collectors who own an original artwork do not automatically own the right to reproduce or license that image. These rights affect everything from catalogs and posters to advertisements and merchandise.
