Screen Print

← Back to Art Glossary

Definition: Screen printing, also known as silkscreen, is a method of creating images by pressing ink through a mesh screen onto a surface using a stencil to block certain areas. The technique gained prominence in fine art through artists like Andy Warhol, who used it for its bold color and reproducibility.

Screen printing is still widely used in both commercial art and limited edition printmaking. It allows for vibrant flat colors and works well on paper, canvas, and textiles.
