Portfolio of seven aquatints on B.F.K. Rives paper, from 1985, published in an edition of 45. Each print signed by the artist. Sheet size: 21 x 27 inches (53.3 x 68.6 cm) each. Professionally framed to museum standards.

About The Artwork

This rare complete portfolio showcases James Turrell's masterful exploration of light, space, and perception through the printmaking medium. Created in 1985, the set consists of seven exquisite aquatints on premium B.F.K. Rives paper, each individually signed by the artist from the limited edition of 45.

The Deep Sky Portfolio translates Turrell's revolutionary immersive light installations into two-dimensional form, using the velvety texture of the aquatint process to create atmospheric depth and subtle luminosity. Each print features abstract compositions that evoke vast cosmic landscapes, with tiny stars incorporated as subtle elements that connect to Turrell's Quaker spiritual background and his concept of inner light.

Turrell (b. 1943) is internationally acclaimed for his groundbreaking work with light and space, including his ongoing Roden Crater project in Arizona. His installations transform perception, inviting viewers to experience light as a tangible presence rather than merely a tool for illumination. This portfolio captures the essence of his artistic philosophy in a more intimate format.

Complete sets of the Deep Sky Portfolio are exceptionally rare on the market. Most have been acquired by major museum collections, making this opportunity particularly significant for serious collectors. Each print measures 21 x 27 inches and has been professionally framed to museum conservation standards.
