About The Artwork

This rare intaglio print represents a significant work from Louise Bourgeois' distinguished late-career period. Created in 1999, it is one of seven special prints that accompanied only the first 25 deluxe editions of Bourgeois' important "Metamorfosis" illustrated book (from a total book edition of 85).

"Metamorfosis (MoMA 493b)" exemplifies Bourgeois' masterful printmaking technique and her exploration of psychological themes that defined her artistic practice. The intaglio process, with its deeply etched lines and rich textural qualities, perfectly complements her visceral artistic language.

This print is part of a series that ties into the larger themes present throughout Bourgeois' oeuvre—memory, identity, and trauma. Like much of her work, it reveals her unique ability to translate complex emotional states into powerful visual imagery, creating an intimate connection with viewers.
Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) is recognized as one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Though she worked across multiple mediums including sculpture, drawing, and installation, her printmaking practice holds special significance, particularly her late-career works that distill her artistic vision with remarkable clarity and emotional potency.

This print has been preserved in excellent condition and has never been framed.
