Unititled, 2016
This sophisticated intaglio etching represents Eddie Martinez's innovative approach to printmaking techniques. Created in 2016 during his collaboration with Flying Horse Editions at the University of Central Florida, this piece demonstrates Martinez's willingness to experiment with complex, layered processes to achieve unique visual results.
The work combines several specialized printmaking techniques, including traditional intaglio etching, soft ground, and a three-piece chine collé (a method of adhering delicate paper elements to a heavier backing during the printing process). Martinez further individualized the print with watercolor additions, creating a hybrid work that blurs the line between print and original drawing.
"Untitled, 2016" is one of three editions Martinez produced through this significant collaboration. Flying Horse Editions is celebrated for its master print program, which partners with established artists to explore and expand the possibilities of contemporary printmaking. This partnership allowed Martinez to translate his dynamic visual language into the intricate realm of etching and mixed-media printing.
Eddie Martinez (b. 1977) has established himself as one of today's most distinctive artists, known for work that combines abstract expressionist energy with street art influences. His practice spans painting, drawing, and printmaking, consistently pushing boundaries between abstraction and figuration.
