About The Artwork

Swimmers in Fog, 2021 showcases Bradford's signature style—a masterful blend of gestural forms and layered washes that create figures existing between the physical and ethereal. In this composition, Bradford blurs the boundaries between foreground and background, immersing viewers in a hazy purple atmosphere where ambiguous figures float in an indeterminate space. These beings exist in a liminal state, simultaneously appearing as everyday swimmers and otherworldly entities.

Bradford's masterful use of color and light creates a sense of timelessness and boundless space. The pervading purple mist unifies the composition, leaving only the luminous figures and the suggestion of water. This dreamlike quality invites viewers to surrender to the scene's meditative tranquility.

Katherine Bradford (b. 1942) came to prominence later in life and has since become one of the most celebrated contemporary painters working today. Her works explore themes of human connection, vulnerability, and transcendence through her distinctive approach to figurative painting.

This print, from an edition of 125 with 12 artist's proofs and 6 printer's proofs, was produced by Exhibition A, known for their high-quality artist collaborations.
